Bishop John, with the diocesan Director of Mission, The Revd Dr Michael Beasley, and European Contact, Canon Tony Dickinson, who chairs the Oxford-Växjö Link Committee, recently took part in the five-yearly conference for priests and deacons in the diocese of Växjö.
The first two days were held at S:t Sigfrids folkhögskola at Kronoberg, just outside Växjö city. The third day, which was also open to lay people, took place in Växjö’s Concert House, which is also a conference venue with a number of smaller meeting rooms in addition to its two main halls which are named after two famous växjö-born musicians, the 19th-century soprano Christa Nilsson and the 20th-century composer and conductor Karl Birger Blomdahl.
The three from Oxford were part of an international team presenting a seminar on how we learn from our diocesan partnerships, alongside representatives of Växjö’s other partner churches, Greifswald in Pomerania (part of the newly formed Nordkirche, which stretches from Germany’s Danish border to the frontier with Poland) and the Lutheran Church in Costa Rica (ILCO). They also took part (with the help of English-speaking colleagues) in other events in the conference programme as well as joining in a celebration of the 10th Anniversary of our diocesan partnership which was broadcast live on Sveriges Radio (Programme 1 – roughly the equivalent of BBC Radio 4).
