A group from the Växjö Cathedral team visited Oxford between Thursday 27 and 30 September 2012 with a view to exploring topics of mutual interest.
The party consisted of Thomas Petersson (Dean of Växjö Cathedral), Carin Åstrand, (Cathedral Chaplain), Leif Adolfsson (Priest – and acting Dean before Thomas’s appointment), Joachim Franzén (Pastoral Assistant in the Cathedral parish) and Liselotte Lindstrand (Parish Adviser).
On the Thursday evening the group met the Revds Sally Welch and Georgie Simpson in Oxford to talk about pilgrimage (in a wide variety of styles and contexts) and the development of spirituality.
On Friday they were in the Cathedral, talking to the Dean and Sub-dean and other members of staff, including Jim Godfrey, the Cathedral’s “visits officer”. A major shared concern was how to open up each cathedral to people across the diocese and make it a place in which faith can be explored. Both teams are keen to develop cathedral-cathedral links at all levels.
On Saturday they were with Sue Booys and other members of the Dorchester Team, looking at relationships within the team – and particularly between Dorchester Abbey and the other parishes in the Team Ministry. Växjö is about to undergo a significant pastoral reorganisation which will turn the present five parishes (the Cathedral parish, which includes Högstorp and the Tegner Chapel; Skogslyckan; Växjö Maria: and Teleborg, which includes the University) into a single team ministry covering the whole city.
The group finished their programme with Tony Dickinson for a meal and discussion about the wider aspects of the inter-diocesan link and on Sunday left for Heathrow for their return flight to Sweden.
