Between 30 September and 5 October 2012, a group of Deacons from Växjö Diocese, led by Monica Sölvesdotter Olsson, first visited London, and then Oxford Diocese. After a day looking at some of the work of the churches in Slough, the group moved on to Oxford, where they spent an afternoon at St Andrew’s Church, Linton Road.
Associate Vicar Paul White introduced the group to the many ways in which St Andrew’s engages with different constituencies and age groups. Leslie Dentry, Families and Children’s Worker and Jon Holder, Cutteslowe Youth and Community Worker gave presentations on their areas of work and Tom Kempton illustrated the fact that there is more to ministry than what is done from church premises by speaking about the work he and his wife Martha are engaged in with the Oxford Food Bank.
For light relief, the visitors were provided with a traditional English cream tea.
The Cutteslowe project was of particular interest to the visitors and three of the group went on to a meeting of the Cutteslowe Youth group afterwards.[table “6” not found /]
